Black Cat

Something stealthily steals through the house at night

Its eyes glowing green in the silver moonlight

Soft footsteps sound gently on the old wooden floor

Its dark shadow appears at my bedroom door

Clutching my blankets, I tremble in freight

Of this unknown terror in the dead of night

What could it be? I must find out somehow!

When to my surprise, I hear a “meow?”

With a sigh of relief, I turn on the light

Finally ending my fright from this terror of night

It was only a cat, and a black one at that

Staring blankly at me from the place where it sat

Then it scurried away, as if frightened somehow

Leaving naught but the echo of a faint

“meow?”

Ode to Marissa

Oh Marissa

My bestest friend

I hope I know you

Until the end

That was too much like

A Hallmark card

Who would ever think

Rhyming could be so hard

I can’t believe

How far we’ve come

We’ve known each other

Since 2001

Or maybe before

I do not know the year

But it was in Grade 4

That much is clear

So crazy we were

So crazy we are

We do some weird things

We sing in my car

Oh Marissa

You vex me so

I bug you too

That much I know

But whether we’re young

Or whether we’re old

We’ll still be best friends

And our tale will be told

Oh Marissa

Just think, take a look

Life without you’d be

Like life without books

So boring and plain

Like killing off Zane

I don’t know what I’d do

I just might go insane

So finally now

This long poem is through

My longest one yet

And I wrote it for you

I know some people may not understand parts of this poem. Its from one of our favorite book series. Well Marissa, here is your ode, with a few changes from the original.

Ode to Audrey*

Oh Audrey

You are so vexing

The way that you act

Is just so perplexing

Oh Audrey

You just don’t make sense

Sometimes you are dumber

than a white picket fence

You don’t believe me?

Well I know that it’s true

She’s a definite blond

Despite her I.Q.

Oh Audrey

You are so annoying

But life without you

Would really be boring

Oh Audrey

A constant sense of amusement you are

Whether on land or on sea or in car

Oh Audrey

We’ve reached the end

That’s it, that is all

Now read this to your friends

What will they say?

What will they do?

Why they’ll laugh I would say

’cause they know it’s all true!

 * for those of you who don’t know, Audrey is my little sister. She’s a freshman and even though she’s smart, she’s a real blond. This poem is about her (obviously).

When I Was Young…

We arrived in the dead of night

But she never seemed to care

She always kept on the front porch light

And waited in her big read chair

Her homeade bread was the best

Her cookies were great too

A home-cooked feast awaited us

Every day at noon

She always knew what was wrong

And knew just what to say

She always made you feel at home

And still does that today

Hey

Welcome! This is just a basic introduction for any of you who don’t already know most of what there is to know about me. As I hope you’ve been able to figure out by now, my name is Laura. (though my friends prefer to call me “Cap’n” yes, as in the cereal, Cap’n Crunch. I really have no idea why they chose this name for me. I’m not really into nicknames. For some reason they never stick.) I love to read (as most of you probably know as well). I usually take a book with me everywhere I go. That way I always have something to do. My favorite author is Scott Westerfeld ( I know most of you have never heard of him. Look him up) but my favorite book is The Giver by Lois Lowry. Its an easy read but a great book with an excellent message. We (our SEARCH class) read it in 6th grade. I loved it then and I still do now.

I love to watch Star Wars. The new ones are great but the old ones are better. I also love Pirates of the Caribbean and I like to watch 80s movies (you know, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Back to the Future). One of my favorite T.V. shows is M*A*S*H. I can’t stand most of the stuff on today, such as anything on MTV, all the reality shows, The Simple Life. I think its all crap, but you are entitled to your own opinion.

It probably won’t surprise you that I’m not a fan of most of today’s music as well. I like to listen to U2. About the only modern music I like to listen to is Contemporary Christian. Chris Tomlin, tobyMac, and the Newsboys are my favorites. ( I also realize that most of you won’t know who these people are either). I love to listen to music when I’m driving alone. I usually always keep the radio on.

Well I think I’ve said all the could possibly be said. If I forgot something I can say it later. I guess this is it. Oh wait. I remember something I forgot. My friends ( how could I do that! I’m sorry guys!) Some of my best friends are Marissa, Brandie, Dova, and Jamie R. (If i forgot anyone, I’m sorry) We’re a little crazy when we get together, though when we’re in school, it doesn’t really show. They’re great though. I don’t know what I’d do without them.

Well I really do think that’s all that I could possibly say. There can’t be anything more interesting than that. Bye everyone!

-Laura :)
